SECCC Cyclocross Conference Finals - ETSU

There have been a couple of changes for next weekend's SECCC finals events at ETSU.  First of all, the venue has been changed from the ETSU campus to Farmhouse Gallery and Gardens for both days of racing.  New flyers are up with the new directions on them, so make sure you use those directions for the events.  Also note, the promoters have discounted the collegiate races to just $5, so if cost was an issue keeping you away from your first cyclocross race, it is no longer!

Assistant Conference Director

As I mentioned during the year-end mountain bike conference meeting in October, the SECCC is looking for an assistant conference director to help serve the conference. I originally started in the fall of 2008 as the mountain bike conference director. Since then, I have taken over road duties for Dave Brown, and additionally have seen the cyclocross season created and expanded into a legitimate “3rd season”, as well as the conference’s first dive into track cycling. With all of these additional weekends required of the conference director, I simply cannot attend them all and still serve the SECCC to the best of my ability. I think the best direction is to follow the lead of most of the other collegiate conferences by appointing an Assistant Conference Director.

Ideally, the person filling the new position would be willing to split the number of weekends with me during the three primary seasons by traveling to the events and being able to answer questions, officiate if necessary, and help with overall organization. The position is a volunteer role (as is the Conference Director role) that comes with a small budget to manage over the course of the season. But most importantly, the person must have a passion for collegiate cycling.

If you or someone else you know might be interested, feel free to send inquiries to me at nhaslick@usacycling.org. I can also answer any questions you might have about the role.

Thank you,

Nathan Haslick
SECCC Director

Clemson and King College Results/Points

Results from both the Clemson and King College cyclocross races are now posted, as well as the points.  Since there are no categorized races (ie A/B/C), all racers have scored points based on the "A" points table.

Out front after the first 3 races are Clemson in Division I and Mars Hill in Division II.  As a reminder, the SECCC will be awarding conference championship trophies to the team omnium champions for the first time this year.

ETSU CX Flyers

The ETSU cyclocross flyers are now up on the "Calendar" portion of the site.

UGA CX Event

The UGA cyclocross event has been cancelled.  Since the event was the only opportunity for SECCC racers in the Atlanta area to meet the minimum 1-race requirement for attending Collegiate Nationals without driving a significant distance, if you race this weekend instead at the Georgia Cross event in Marietta, GA in your school kit, you will be checked off as having met the 1-race requirement.  Unfortunately, though, points can't be awarded since there aren't separate collegiate races at the Georgia Cross event.

If you have any questions, as always you can e-mail Nathan Haslick at nhaslick@usacycling.org.
