Nationals Allocations - All Disciplines

2011 Nationals allocations have now been distributed.  They are located on the "Nationals" page.

A couple of things worked in the SECCC's favor for '11.  The rules changed this year to determine slots for Nationals based on A riders, instead of on all riders.  In addition to that, max field sizes were increased.

The end result is that the SECCC has received a huge increase in our allocated slots.  The most notable is for the D1 road race (jumped to 21 from 15) and crit (from 11 to 16).  This event is by far the most exclusive Nationals event to receive a slot in, so that is good news.  In addition to that, due to the SECCC's successes in D2 in the mountain biking discipline, slots at Nationals in some cases more than doubled and in all cases increased significantly.

UF Race Weekend

Thanks to everyone that came out this past weekend to UF. The conference had a great turnout, despite some rain, and there was some good racing, too.

Results should be posted on http://www.floridacycling.com/.  There is also a link to them via the Calendar page.

Points are also posted.  Congrats to Florida State and Mars Hill, who took home the most points from the weekend in each division!  We had 18 different teams represented.  Here are the current standings after the first weekend (full results are posted on the Points page):

New Cycling Team - Embry-Riddle University

The SECCC will welcome another new cycling team this spring.  Embry-Riddle University, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, will be competing in events this spring.  A link to their team information is now up in the "Teams" section of the site.

Rulebooks

The USA Cycling and Collegiate rulebooks have been updated to reflect the changes incorporated for 2011.

University of Alabama Races Cancelled

The University of Alabama races have been cancelled.  That still leaves 7 solid weekends of SECCC racing this spring, plus conference championships, to make it 8 total weekends in road this year.

Latest National Collegiate Newsletter

If you haven't seen the latest National Collegiate Newsletter, you can view it here.  The SECCC has many mentions, including a rememberence of Carla Swart, a nod to Mars Hill for winning collegiate club of the year, a story about Lees McRae adding a "Bicycling Studies" minor, and Florida State for winning the award for the largest growth in an established team in 2010.  FSU used that growth to their advantage during the fall mountain bike season, coming with one race of stealing the D1 SECCC championship from perennial favorite Lees McRae.
